Innovation Zone | Pulse 2.0 to Mars and Back
Join Kevin Donelly for multiple interactive sessions throughout the day. For many VMware Solutions Engineers and Architects, Understanding the world of IoT including terminology and where VMware plays a role in this vast ecosystem can seem like trying to communicate with someone from another planet. If that sounds like you, join this session to learn how a group of typical VMware Solutions Engineers with limited development experience transformed themselves into Martians in 12 weeks. In the process of creating a Mars Rover to demonstrate Pulse IoT, we learned the hard way the importance of configuration consistency, test driven development, Continuous Integration and more. We learned that these ideas have a special significance in an IoT context and that we need to become fluent in having these discussions to remain relevant to our customers as they make the journey to Digital Enterprise. This session will include content from Development tools right through to design choices, mechanics, electrical and functional integration and testing, and of course how all this integrates with three key VMware technologies being Wavefront, Velocloud and Pulse IoT Centre. Come along, meet the rover and get the insights into how and why it was built, including a peek under the covers to the actual code and integration points.

Unlock the Value from Backup Data with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus | IBM Storage
Tired of the Three B's -- Backup Buzzword Bingo? You’ve heard it all before. Every backup and recovery vendor talks about "faster RPOs and RTOs" and the “cloud” and “ransomware.” Incumbent vendors talk about "backup appliances." The "darlings" of the industry are talking about "secondary storage management." Backup is no longer an "insurance policy". Protection, Copy Data Management and Data Re-use are today's modern way to manage data for multiple purposes. As organizations look to what's next with their backup environment in order to move to a more modern data protection infrastructure, they need to look at reducing costs, both CapEx and OpEx. Clients typically do this by replacing VTL systems with more modern software solutions that enable operational recovery as well as provide for long term retention. So how do you sort through all the Bingo words? Come to our session and visit our table to learn how you can unlock the value of your backup data, reduce costs and do more with less.

Introduction to ShadowXafe Data Protection and OneXafe Scale-Out Storage | StorageCraft
Learn how to deploy ShadowXafe and OneXafe in just five minutes and start protecting your data within minutes. This session will delve into the development and architecture behind StorageCraft’s Next Generation solutions and take you on a journey through a live demonstration of deployment, configuring and instant recovery directly into vSphere (including P2V and V2V migrations). See how StorageCraft has made object-based storage architecture easily consumable with no size restrictions on SMB and NFS shares. Imagine a forever expanding VMware Datastore that grows with your business. Understand the benefits of object storage over traditional RAID and built in features including deduplication, compression, encryption, replication and CDP. While the combined ShadowXafe and OneXafe technologies delivers a powerful converged solution, OneXafe can also be used as scale-out secondry storage for any backup product. The significant benefit with OneXafe additional to secondary storage is the combined ability to offload your unstructured data from expensive SAN storage directly onto the Active Directory integrated SMB shares on the OneXafe NAS. With CDB built in you can rest assured the immutable snapshots are protected from ransomware and take advantage of deduplication and compression benefits.

Serving Virtual Servers with Serverless Services on Servers | Community
I am sure you have heard about this new level of abstraction called “Functions” or “Serverless Computing”, but why as someone that looks after the VMware platform would you care? There is enough happening with Containers to keep you busy before you start to worry about the higher abstraction of functions. We are all techies and this tech is cool which is one reason to care, the other is that it can provide value to you and your organisation. With this interactive session we want to show how easy this new capability is and how it can help drive your VMware platform. What we will look to show you through demo, is how you can not only see how functions can help manage your VMs (and your containers, and your…), but go further. How about a homebrew cloud management service that can enable cool capabilities including self-service, configuration versioning, change auditing, event notifications and even enables “infrastructure as code” for you Virtual Platform. This tech is cool and definitely worth a look. We will take you on the journey through the perspective of a VMware platform to show you how it is comprised and what it can do. As always, this will be “live” demo heavy and slide light!
